Reset your year

The unofficial war cry of the entrepreneur is “I was born to do more than pay bills and die.” I believe that’s true for us all. Every single one of us.

We were created for so much more. But, what is more? What does that look like? What does it even mean? And by the way, what about the mortgage? It’s not going to pay itself. Food? Does not put itself on the table.  And so, those soul whispers get shushed. We struggle on for another day. Our spark of genius gets turned down to a low flame. We manage. We keep going. We survive. Our brilliance, our radiance, gets dimmed day by day. Our gift to the world stays wrapped up and hidden away.

It’s time to crank up the gas on that flame and wake the heck up. It’s been said before but sometimes we forget; this is not a dress rehearsal. This is the final production.

You are the lead on stage. It’s time. It’s your time. If you were waiting for a sign. This is it.

As we enter the second half of 2016, I invite you to go within and see the gift you have inside. I invite you do ditch the half year resolutions and set some intentions instead.

Turn off the TV. Close down Facebook. Switch your iPhone to silent. Shut the door. The world as we know it will not end if you take 15 minutes out for you.

Now, grab your journal or open up your MacBook and settle in. Relax, this is your time. No pressure, no right or wrong way to do this. It’s just you and you’ve got this.

Sitting comfortably, take a few deep cleansing breaths and a sip of tea (or wine).

When you’re ready, imagine yourself a few days before New Year 2017 sitting down to reflect on the past year. Think about how you spent 2016.

See it in all in Technicolor glory as if your 2016 was the holiday release of choice.

Ask your future self these questions;

  • When you look back, what do you see?

  • What experiences did you have? What adventures? Why those ones?

  • What did you feel? Why?

  • Who’s lives did you touch? Why? How?

  • What mattered? Really and truly mattered?

  • If you were to write an Amazon review of your 2016, what would you say? What line or two sums up the year?

  • What was your mantra for 2016?

Write it all down. Whatever comes up. No judgement, no doubt. Just let it all flow out of you. Let your imagination run free.

Now, breathe it all in and know that everything you want is possible. You are a bright, resourceful woman. You can make this happen. Whether or not you do is up to you. It’s up to you to chose you. You’ve got plenty of time left in 2016 to bring your dream into reality – all is not lost and it’s not too late (actually it’s never too late).

Review your journaling and ask yourself what needs to happen to make your mental movie be true?

  • What do you need to believe about yourself?

  • Who do you need to be?

  • What conversations do you need to have?

  • What do you need to let go of?

  • Where do you need to be brave?

  • Where do you already have what you saw?

  • What scares you the most? Can you break it down into baby steps?

If you come against “I don’t know”, imagine you did know. What would you do?

Answers leave you wanting to hide under the covers until it’s over? Check in with yourself to see if these are truly your desires or what you think you should want. Or what someone else wants for you? A few butterflies are normal, falling head first into a tub of ice cream is not. Take a look see what’s really going on in there. If it’s coming from your soul, it will feel expansive even if you can’t see how to make it happen.

Nothing even a teensy bit scary? Double check that you’ve been dreaming without limits. If you are dreaming within your comfort zone, are you dreams encompassing all of your potential for greatness?

If looking at your answers excite you and are a little bit scary – you’re on to something good. Change can be scary. Not because it’s to be feared but simply because it’s different. That is all change is; different from now.

And if your “now” isn’t all you want it to be then change is your ally in designing a life you do want.

Because this is your life. And living a life filled with love, laughter and lightness, is your responsibility. Let me say that again so you hear me; your life is your responsibility. Many people will have a view on what you should do, but no one else is you. You are the boss of you. It’s time to take charge.

Is this getting your gift out there in the world? Actually, it is. Because the gift is you. And we need you. Yes, you.

You make a difference. You count. You matter.

As more and more women wake up and reclaim their brilliance, their joy, their truth. Many more will be inspired to wake up too.

Who knows who’ll be inspired by you? Make the rest of your year, the best of your year.
