Just get started!

Here’s the thing, love. There is no such thing as perfection. It just doesn’t exist - at least not this side of heaven. The website won’t be perfect first time, the copy could be better and the audio could be sharper. And it will always be this way. Everyone can always do it better. This is a good thing, it’s what keeps us getting better. It’s also a giant headache because it’s what keeps us stuck.

I’m not an advocate for mediocre. Excellence in everything is always my aim. But. Excellence is not the same as perfect.

Excellence is doing your best, with the best intention and getting it done.

You're in business to help people. You can’t help anyone if they can’t see your work.

Perfectionism is a particularly insidious form of procrastination because it feels like you’re doing something. The truth is (and you know it) you just need to hit send, publish or pick up the phone.

Stop smashing your head against a brick wall trying to decide which shade of blue (or pink or red or whatever) for your brand. Stop weighing up the pros and cons of each choice. For the love of chocolate stop asking other people what they think. It doesn’t matter what they think. The next person you ask will think something different. Then what are you going to do? Exactly.

Stop, breathe and choose. It’s ok. Whatever you choose is ok.

The simple, brutal, truth is this: you just need to get started. You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get started.

Yes, I know you’ve heard about the 80/20 and yes its true 20% of your content will get you 80% of your results but…it has to be 20% of something. And you won’t won’t know what’s 80 and whats 20 until you have enough content to analyse the data.

Ask yourself this: what one thing will move you business forward? How long will it take to complete? Now, schedule it and get it done. It doesn’t have to be complicated, it doesn’t have to be fancy, it has to be a solid baby step that you can and will do.

You can do this.  Go do it.
